Since 1991, there have been close to 100 Green Funds established or pending at campuses in 27 states in the US.
In 2004, Texas State students approved an environmental service fee for their campus and are currently the only school in Texas to have such a fee.
In 2009, Governor Perry signed into law HB 3353 allowing students to initiate environmental service fees on their campus upon approval from the majority of voting students in a general election.
Six campuses in Texas, including Texas A&M University and University of Texas at Austin, are pursuing the passage of Green Funds at their campuses.
